Bedford’s Centenary

1923 to 2023

2023/2024 was an exciting year in the history of Bedford Rotary Club. It celebrated 100 years since its formation in 1923. A number of events and projects took place including an Anniversary Lunch in September attended by well over 200 guests including the Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Mayor of Bedford and Presidents and Members of all nearby Clubs. Alistair Burt, former Government minister and MP for North East Bedfordshire, gave a stirring toast to the Club.

The Club also sponsored two landmark trees on the Embankment and another near Longholme Boating Lake

Another project supported by the Club was a Myawaki Forest planted on Longholme Way Bedford. Such a Forest provides a range of native trees planted densely together establishing a new miniature woodland at an accelerated rate. It will not only look good but also secures environmental benefits such as better air quality, reduced noise and a habitat for local wildlife. A large number of volunteers turned out to plant the trees.

The Project was supported by Bedford Borough Council, the Forest of Marston Vale, Cranfield University and Bedford Rotary Club.

The Club also celebrated the year by sponsoring a Flower Rondel on Bedford’s Embankment. Feedback was very positive.
